Electrodeposition of thin films based on zinc complex of hydroxyphenylporphyrin for electrochromic applications

Formation of films based on Zn(II)-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin in dimethyl sulfoxide solutions was carried out by superoxide anion radical-initiated electrochemical deposition method. It was shown that initiation of polymerization using superoxide in oxygenated solutions makes to the formation of the polyporphyrin film. The spectral characteristics of the obtained films were studied and their surface morphology was characterized by atomic force microscopy. The type of porphyrin binding in the deposited films was determined by Raman spectroscopy. The spectroelectrochemical study showed that the observed spectral responses indicate the localization of excess negative or positive charge on the macrocycle. These results highlight the potential for widespread application of films based on Zn(II)-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin in optical applications.
