A new branched ester containing terminal carbazole moieties has been synthesized via the Steglich esterification reaction. Dual-state fluorescence and solvent polarity effect on the photophysical properties of target compound have been investigated. It is noteworthy that the sample under study shows a significant fluorescence response to increasing solvent polarity, expressed in a red shift of the emission maximum by more than 100 nm with a noticeable quenching of fluorescence. The synthesized branched ester exhibits activity towards 1O2 generation, which decrease in the solvent series DCM > cyclohexane > DMF > toluene.
