On the 100th Birthday of Yuri Kessler

19.02.2024

On February 1, 2024, the regular meeting of the scientific seminar "Physical Chemistry of Solutions and Fluids" at ISC RAS was held to celebrate the 100th birthday of Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Yuri Kessler.

Professor Kessler started his work at the Institute of Chemistry of Nonaqueous Solutions of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, which was recently opened in Ivanovo, in 1981 and it is this institute that most of his further research was associated with. It is under his supervision that a new laboratory specializing in dynamics of particles and many-particle correlations in liquid phase was opened and the foundation of a new research direction was laid - identification of molecular mechanisms responsible for the formation of observed microscopic properties of binary solutions of nonelectrolytes and ionic solutions on their basis. Even now, after so many years, the pioneering ideas of this talented and dedicated scientist are being realized in his pupils' and colleagues' works.

At the seminar, his pupils - Mikhail Kiselev, Yuri Pukhovsky and Valentina Petrenko - spoke about their research done together with Yuri Kessler. His colleagues - Arkadiy Kolker, Andrei Kustov and Mikhail Berengarten - told the audience about their cooperation with Professor Kessler.
